There’s been a spike in the number of kids and pets locked in cars in South Australia, and the RAA is concerned as the weather heats up.
Based on data from last year, the road safety organisation has compiled a list of the suburbs with the most call-outs.
Port Augusta made its way on the list, with five instances where the RAA was needed to get a child or pet out of a locked car.
According to a recent experiment, car cabin temperatures can rise to 80 degrees within 20 minutes when left in the sun.
RAA Senior Traffic Engineer Matt Vertudaches says no child or pet should be exposed to those temperatures.
“If you do find yourself in a situation with a child or pet in a locked car, do your best to remain calm so you don’t distress your child or pet,” Mr Vertudaches says.
