Snapper fingerlings were released into the Gulf St Vincent in the early hours of this morning as part of a State Government initiative.
The juvenile fish release was part of an $8.8 million State Government support package to boost Snapper numbers in SA waters by up to 1 million by the end of this year.
The project began in December 2022 in response to the depleted number of Snapper in local waters, and bans on Snapper fishing in the waters off the West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent will remain in place until 30 June, 2026.
SARDI hosted a community event at Black Point between 6:30 and 7:30am to mark the occasion.
