Riverlea Keeps Rolling

A major housing project on Port Wakefield Highway is moving forward under strict conditions following the discovery of Indigenous remains last year.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Kyam Maher, announced the developer of the Riverlea Housing Estate, has received authorization under the Aboriginal Heritage Act.

The project was halted in July after an anonymous tip-off revealed Indigenous remains within the development area.

Now, 25 conditions have been established to ensure respectful management of Aboriginal heritage during construction.

Key requirements include the creation of a Kaurna Memorial Resting Place at the discovery site, with all removed remains to be returned and reburied nearby.
