Some people have gotten a good deal on property in the steel city.
The Whyalla City Council auctioned off 16 properties to recover unpaid rates that had accumulated over several years.
The auction recouped nearly $661,500, while the total capital value of all properties was $1.6 million.

Five were purchased by a single Adelaide-based buyer, two by out-of-state parties, and nine by Whyalla residents.
