An initiative to convert a 1000-hectare site near Burra into a national park has reached a pivotal stage.
Renewable energy company, Neoen has handed over the Worlds End Gorge site to the State Government, an integral step in gaining an environmental offset for their Goyder Wind Farm Stage 1 project.
This move secures the preservation of the site’s rare permanent waterholes and diverse wildlife, merging it with Hopkins Creek Conservation Park to create a massive 1,600ha national park.
A Community Reference Group, including Traditional Owners, fire services, volunteers, and council reps, will shape the park’s design and management.
The Ngadjuri people will co-name the park to honor its cultural significance, while Neoen has commited to annual conservation funding for the next 30 years.
